On September 13th in Venice at a great architectural event - the International Venice Architecture Biennale - awards were given for the most interesting exhibitions. Polish team won the first prize for the first time in the Biennale's history. The team consisting of the Polish Pavilion commissioner Agnieszka Morawińska, assistant commissioner Zofia Machnicka, curators Grzegorz Piątek and Jarosław Trybuś, and artists Nicolas Grospierre and Kobas Laksa, defeated over fifty contestants from all over the world.
"Hotel Polonia. The Afterlife of Buildings " - a project by curators Grzegorz Piątek and Jarosław Trybuś, implemented by Nicholas Grospierre and Kobas Laksa was based on the idea of giving architecture new form and attached unconventional and surprising functions to six buildings created recently in Poland: The University of Warsaw Library (BUW), Marina Mokotów housing estate, the Metropolitan building, the Warsaw Fryderyk Chopin Airport Terminal 2, Rondo 1 and the Licheń Sanctuary. The library became a shopping center, the Licheń basilica - an aqua park, and the airport - a house for farm animals.
The Jury was impressed by the authors' creativity and awarded the Polish Pavilion with prestigious Golden Lion award. The award gala took place in Teatro Piccolo Arsenale in Venice.
